Get informed, attentive care for – & to prevent – the “silent disease”
The human body’s fuel, glucose, is processed from food and delivered to cells by a hormone called insulin. The body’s inability to produce or properly use insulin is known as diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is when the pancreas does not produce insulin. Type 2 diabetes is when the body doesn’t produce or use insulin correctly. In both cases, glucose remains in the blood rather than being delivered to the body’s cells.
A significant threat to your health & well-being
Excessive blood glucose — the hallmark of diabetes — is a major health threat. Over time, high blood sugar can damage your eyes, nerves and kidneys. It can lead to heart disease, stroke and circulatory problems that can result in limb amputation. Today, diabetes is incurable, lifelong and one of the leading causes of American deaths and disability.
Millions have diabetes… & many are unaware
Roughly 24 million Americans have diabetes. Worse, close to 6 million of them don’t have a clue that their health is worsening. And more are likely at risk… and even more will be later. Of Americans born in 2000, the Centers for Disease Control estimates that roughly one-third will have diabetes.
